Born and raised in the Detroit metro area, Matthew Roberts earned a bachelors degree from Calvin College in political science and philosophy, and then a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota. His book, Oral Arguments and Amicus Curiae, explores how the Supreme Court makes its decisions.
In his more than 10 years teaching American government, Dr. Roberts has always emphasized the importance of civility, deliberation, and civic engagement. His decision to run for president stems from his personal dissatisfaction with the 2016 presidential election, as well as a belief that the American electoral system needs change in order to stay true to its principles.
Dr. Roberts lives in West Michigan with his wife of 18 years and their three children.
